Wisely Listening to Volcker, Obama Proposes Restrictions on Banks
Response to post #10: SurfPuppy619, I agree with you and have been an Independent because of that. Indeed, the overthrow of the Rule of Law by SCOTUS is already a fact.— January 24, 2010 4:19 p.m.
Wisely Listening to Volcker, Obama Proposes Restrictions on Banks
Response to post #8: "The next step is to boycott products of those companies who take the Supreme Court cue and directly buy off politicians." That's going to be one hell of a boycott you are championing Don, especially since it will apply to damned near every major corporation on Wall Street. The demonic fact of life is that millions of American jobs and manufacturing in America still depend on employment by those companies that have put us on this economic death spiral to support the new American business model that has sold out American jobs, opportunities and manufacturing to Chinese Communist Capitalism already. Eight years of treason against American Democracy by the Republican controlled White House, Congress and Supreme Court have damned near destroyed American Capitalism and our former Land of Opportunity. And the republicans aren't done destroying the American way of life yet, they still control Congress and the Supreme Court in spite of criminally incompetent democratic majorities in Congress.— January 24, 2010 5:32 a.m.
December Unemployment 10.1%
The last two days on Wall Street proved that Wall Street is placing their bets on the Communist Chinese version of Capitalism in the 21st century. In the newest Business Week delivered yesterday there is a Business Views - Outside Shot commentary which discussed the Chinese Communist version of Capitalism “Business profits tend to end up in state coffers, not Chinese wallets. Wage and income growth, even for China’s urban residents, hovers at about half the level of GDP growth over the past 15 years.” This explains two of the newest Wall Street/GOP cultural values based on Chinese Communist Capitalism which they are now using as their business/role model: 1) The Bush Autocracy exported millions of American jobs and opportunities, including $Trillions in American manufacturing and Wealth of American workers to Communist China where Wall Street now wants to make their profits. 2) Wall Street doesn’t like Obama’s new way of fighting back against out of control Wall Street greed and corruption that caused the recession, so they plunged the DJI about 430 points in the last two days to hit him over the head with the new Wall Street facts of life where they demanding that profits go to the executives instead of employees, shareholders and American wallets exactly like Chinese treat their people. Welcome to the new world of Wall Street/GOP Communist Capitalism.— January 23, 2010 12:23 p.m.
Wisely Listening to Volcker, Obama Proposes Restrictions on Banks
Response to posts #1 & 4 So the reality is that the republicans and lobbyists still control the Supreme Court. And the bottom line as of yesterday is that the court has now given complete control of American Democracy to the lobbyists, to control elections in addition to the control over congress that they already had. Former Justice O'Connor was most correct to warn America about the overthrow of the Rule of Law, but it was too late and we are now experiencing the consequences of a No One Really Cares/Whatever electorate with America's new Lobbyist Democracy. Yup, sure looks like a new version of the Decline and Fall of BCE Greek Democracy, the Roman Empire and German Democracy before WWII. And yesterdays slap on the hand (213 DJI decline) against Obama by Wall Street is just another sign of the newest level of takeover of America, until our money printing presses break down that is and Wall Street really drives us into Depression, or China forecloses on America because the Bush Administration sold out America to Chinese Communism.— January 22, 2010 4:45 a.m.
Pension Costs Reach 69% of City Payroll, Says DeMaio
Response to post #29: Let's hope the "38 minutes print" are spent learning, thinking and coming up with good ideas from reading warnings like your column, and the "1.29 computer" hours are spent on protecting and improving their future quality of life. Or else their future is well and truly screwed by what remains of the "haves" as more and more of them descend into the existence of the "have nots."— January 21, 2010 10:59 a.m.
Pension Costs Reach 69% of City Payroll, Says DeMaio
Don, your blogs about current events, especifially including changing political powers are proving it's time we reviewed the motivations of basic human nature around the world, in America, California and San Diego. It's been far too simplistic for us to focus our macroscopes on corruption, greed, incompetence, immorality, etc. when the 21st century has already presented us with world, national, state and local problems we haven't seen in such combinations before. One overwhelming reality is everything about life on earth is changing far too fast for far too many peoples, with rapidly declining resources that are causing reductions in quality of life for every group, tribe, nationality, whatever, out of control fear mongering, hate and hypocrisy that is fooling far too many people regardless of educational level, religious belief and political affiliation, etc. It's becoming an everyone for themselves, me first world more than ever before because the levels of competition for remaining resources, quality of life, etc. are escalating far too rapidly and we are devolving back to humanity's lowest levels of cooperation, love, compassion, mutual respect, personal responsibility, etc. since Jesus was crucified for trying to teach us morality, peace on earth goodwill to men and the golden rule to save us from ourselves. The worst case reality today is that all of our social, religious, educational, political, economic institutions have failed and we need to fight back or surrender to hell on earth. Our leaders and our communications are sensationalizing everything to the point where it appears that we can't figure out how cooperate at all anymore even if we can still prevent the fall of civilization. We can and must do better, but how do we start overcoming our failure modes under the current conditions of political, economic and moral chaos we have already allowed ourselves to devolve into?— January 21, 2010 5:10 a.m.

Response to post #15: After yesterday one must wonder if Independent voters are now beginning to upset the political equation at last by fighting back against the cultures of corruption and incompetence that have dominated the republican and democratic parties, resulting in decades of betrayals of We The People by both parties. But it is hard to tell yet if Massachusetts really represents a national wave of political change because Massachusetts has a dominant culture which allowed pedophilia to destroy the lives of 10s of 1000s of helpless children for far too many decades. The people of Massachusetts have watched and done nothing to stop Mortal Sins, and political betrayals are much easier in comparison regardless of how they are registered politically. The best we can hope for is that Republican and Democrat political cultures will be overthrown, restoring American Democracy and enfranchising We The People once again.— January 20, 2010 12:44 p.m.

The Great San Diego Recession is far from over and we have no political leadership that is allowed to solve it.— January 20, 2010 5:10 a.m.

Response to post #13: Never mind Don, it no longer matters whether the GOP/U-T betrayed you, Goldsborough and other great San Diego journalists or not after yesterdays Massachusetts Gotterdammerung. It appears that Republican voters in Massachusetts think of GOP as a new spelling for GOD, and we have a whole new political reality in America today. The culture of Corruption and Greed triumphed because the democrats proved that they are too incompetent to lead one too many times.— January 20, 2010 4:16 a.m.

Response to post #9: "Gotterdammerung has already been written." Good point Don, but it needs updating and no one can do that better than you and your former U-T colleagues like Goldsborough who were betrayed by the San Diego Republican Party's control over the U-T. When we were kids American Heroes and Patriots fought Nazis to protect American Democracy, while we were growing up we had to protect American Democracy from communism, only to have the GOP sell out American jobs, opportunities, manufacturing and the Wealth of America to Communist China, so now we have to fight the GOP to protect America from a GOP Gotterdammerung that is destroying American Democracy today.— January 19, 2010 12:26 p.m.
