Don, I know I’ve repeated some important things too many times by now. So now I’m going to give you some illustrations of what I would like The Reader to do better than I can. I shall never be as eloquent as you are Don, but we must go beyond the continuous reporting of individual and group corruption to add general information columns on why we must act today, so I offer some: ESSAYS ON SAN DIEGO’S CHALLENGES #1 - Essay on the U-T Editorial Board and The Rights of the People – The U-T Editorial Board represents anti-democracy forces in San Diego today, and it is up to The Reader to end that era of the culture that dominates the U-T Editorial Board and all other San Diego journals except The Reader. The U-T establishment has attacked the “Rights of the People” far too many times and the consequences are totally intolerable today. Response to post #48: Thank you again Don. We need information to focus and dedicate as many people as possible to voting in the most important 2008 elections. We must send a wake-up call to our political parties that we aren’t going to put up with their corruption and incompetence anymore. The consequences of failures by our political parties to protect America has reached potentially tsunami magnitudes, and they must change their ways to rededicate themselves to the best interests of We The People today. As I have said before, no one has warned us any better than President Eisenhower in his 1961 Farewell Address focusing on the threats posed by the military-industrial-government-academic complex against American Democracy that have overwhelmed the American way of life today. People must clearly understand that kind of thing so they can be motivated to act in their own behalf. We must all be focused to work together socially, politically and economically to make the right things happen for our future at last, especially by setting aside our differences for the common good. America needs leadership with integrity once again, in a time when our politicians have run out of integrity, failed the tests of loyalty to the American people and are morally bankrupt. America is still the greatest nation on earth today because of the American People, but our politicians are destroying our future with their lusts for personal power and greed. This political era must end. Poverty, pollution, violence, hate, etc. are even more rapidly growing out of control in America today, but we still have a chance to restore order, so the 2008 elections must be treated as if they are our last chance to prevent the social and economic chaos produced by the forces of corruption and hate from overwhelming us. In San Diego, The Reader is our only remaining journal with integrity to make the right things happen. Response to post #42: Don, the problem as you well know is that time is no longer on our side, the decline and fall caused by republican and democrat politicians are accelerating with options become gravely reduced due to the rapid changes in our economy. The 2008 elections are closer than most people think, presenting an opportunity when people must act in their own behalf with an extreme sense of urgency, and you need to wake us up so we can make the right decisions. Sorry if I am repeating myself but the situation truly is as grave as Ike predicted in his 1961 Farewell to the Nation speech. You have the most integrity in San Diego journalism, which you earned with long and hard work, but and the current out of control situation needs correcting with a sense of urgency that increases seemingly exponentially considering the out of control consequences of institutional failures we are experiencing. And now we have global climate changes that created new records for extremes in 2007 for which our scientific community has failed us completely, on top of all the political failures, etc. I wish you a much longer career, but the time for actions is today and The Reader is San Diego’s only journal with integrity to get the job done.— January 3, 2008 12:04 p.m.

Response to posts #38 & 39: I appreciate all that you and your colleagues have done so far Don, but as post #39 points out most eloquently it is time for The Reader to take journalism back to a higher level once again by educating your Reader Constituency so that we will learn and act more forcefully to save our Democracy from returning to the tyranny that our corrupt and dysfunctional local, state and federal governments are threatening us with. Today the level of Internet “teaching” is best illustrated by the Yahoo! News site lists of “Most Popular,” “Most Viewed,” and “Most Recommended” news stories. The Reader can do better than that. It is time for Don Bauder to renew the greatest American tradition of Thomas Jefferson by inspiring San Diegans to read, think and fight back once again. You are the best there is for the job Don, with your proven track record you can make the right things happen to protect and improve quality of life for your most important young constituency.— January 3, 2008 3:47 a.m.

RIP to all the great newspapers throughout America after WWII that informed us in ways that made us think and participate in Democracy. Newspapers were a major part of my very important current events education until I got to college and they demanded other kinds of sources, but newspapers required levels of comprehension that helped train kids like me to study in college. I hope the Internet will engage the great majority of Americans in the same way. As a former L.A. Times bicycle delivery boy in high school I definitely had a bad feeling when the U-T stopped using them for deliveries, the reality of which turned out to be far worse than I ever thought as this column “--- Some of Paper's Best, Take U-T Buyout” testifies. Strong two way communications between the electorate and our representatives are absolutely necessary to overcome the problems we are facing us today. We don’t have that capability today in this Internet age where representatives like Davis, Boxer and Feinstein auto-reply with form letters indicating the are too busy to give a damn about what mere individuals think, especially when I don’t give them access to my credit card. So the new age communications challenge is up to Don Bauder and The Reader to achieve for the 2008 election, to represent We The People with integrity that refuses to sell out to the U-T establishment in San Diego like others have been forced to do.— January 2, 2008 1:49 p.m.

Response to post #34: Regarding history and the “new” newspapers v.21c again Don, TV “news” and shows are starting to look like the decline and fall era when Roman coliseums ran human slaughter shows almost 24/7 to keep the people “happy”/under control. Even presidential “debates” are now the new game shows, where "my religion is better than your religion," and pillary Hillary rhetoric are used to get people to watch, without requiring any thinking at all. One can only hope that Internet will be the great equalizer for democracy that allows everyone a chance to participate in making and implementation of decisions that decide their future quality of life at last. Actually I liked Barry, especially in comparison to what has evolved from the Nixon era into totally dysfunctional democracy today. Do you think the omnipotent U-T goditorial board notices that, or was that their establishment goal all along? Ever notice all the boats in San Diego with "Phoenix" written on the stern, they're just waiting for the new seashore to reach their end of I8?— January 2, 2008 2:50 a.m.

Response to post #32: Gad, what a way you have of saying Happy New Year Don. Our problems are getting out of control faster than we can even begin to find solutions. I really don’t look forward to 2008 if it gets any worse than 2007: 24 firestorm deaths over the last four years, so far. 25% of San Diego county burned over the last four years with no end in sight. Our local, state and federal governments have reached such a level of corruption and dysfunction that they are subject meltdown. There is so much hate between different Christian churches and between different Muslim sects that religion is getting a bad name. And this morning the U-T published the 2007 San Diego homicide report, including the fact that our children are still killing our children, and they didn’t even mention the excessive number of firestorm deaths in 2007 that could have been prevented if our politicians, judges, and the U-T establishment hadn’t stole so much money from the taxpayers who are losing their lives and property. Meanwhile my alma mater, the University of California still makes hydrogen bombs for humanity and profit, while selling out the last of their scientific integrity this year to BP causing them to be renamed BPerkeley. We have more people than we can provide for any way you look at it. At least I don't have to worry about all the above when the polar ice caps are melting at least 20 years faster than all of our best scientists and their supercomputer models forecast, and the melting accelerated again in 2007. There was an AP article on Saturday “Global warming to alter Calif. Landscape” that asked “Will funky Ocean Beach, an island of liberalism in conservative San Diego County, become, literally, its own island?” Plus an SIO scientist added to the joy of it all by proclaiming “If you raise sea level by a foot, you push a cliff back 100 feet” and “There will be a lot of houses that will fall into the ocean.” Guess where Anon92107 lives? Posts 24, 25, 27 & 28 document some most important warnings for all of us to be more concerned than ever for American Democracy. We are now devolving from being the greatest nation in history at the end of WWII to a nation that is declining and falling due to the culture of hate that dominates the continuous litany of U-T Editorial Board diatribes to White House attacks against our civil liberties. I must admit that my own alma mater has John Yoo as a Boalt Hall law school professor, the same John Yoo who is the White House advocate for supreme executive authority. Yoo wrote the DOJ memos to authorize warrantless searches and the power to torture. Yoo now teaches classes in International Law, Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, Separation of Powers Law, etc. We must all keep the Declaration of Independence close at hand as a checklist.— January 1, 2008 4:05 a.m.

Response to post #17: Thank God for Music, without it humanity would have destroyed itself long ago. Beethoven is #1, Bach #2, etc. If I had a personal anthem it would be Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, and one personal theme would be “Ode to Joy” in the finale. It has been one of humanity’s greatest losses that political oppression, evil and exclusion caused early termination of the lives of too many of the best of them, which is why we must dedicate ourselves to Fight Back against any such politics today, with the same dedication that created our Declaration of Independence.— December 31, 2007 5:16 a.m.
