Response to post # 11: Don, I really don't think it is as simple as saying "It would be the height of irresponsibility for the Fed to lower rates further" in a time when we just had a weak holiday retail season, unemployment is trending upward, manufacturing is still declining, the housing sector continues to crash and burn due to out of control personal financial defaults, and the S&P has dropped 6% in just the first half month of the new year, etc. Things look bleak to say the least, but there are still possibilities for a weak recovery this year at least, unless you are saying that America has bankrupted itself with no hope in sight. Anyway, people still need to have enough money to buy basics, and keeping interest rates out of reach of the majority of X & Y generations when they need to survive is kind of Draconian.— January 16, 2008 4:20 a.m.

I don't think I would identify the X & Y generations with "that woman", especially since Clinton was the President in the oval office and his personality and world leadership power alone made it rape. Anyway, it is a moot point because the brain-dead and corrupt DNC just screwed itself in Michigan and a lot of other states by withdrawing their delegates from the state with the highest unemployment in America, thus saying they don't give a damn about unemployment -- it's the party that rules and you had better damn well do what the national DNC tells you to do regardless of crashing and burning state economic problems. The way the DNC and RNC are screwing up America, America doesn't need any more enemies. The national political and economic problems are making the city hall puppet show look insignificant in comparison, except that the corrupt/brain-dead politicians in San Diego are sabotaging our quality of life and public safety while we are distracted by national and personal problems.— January 16, 2008 3:53 a.m.

Response to "For too long lobbyists have controlled City Hall and the politicians have turned a deaf ear to the voices of everyday San Diegans": It appears that a lot of San Diego establishment needs to be sent to jail to share a cell with Duke, especially including politicians like Sanders and Dumanis and their U-T establishment lobbyist controllers. Unfortunately, there are too many San Diego judges, including former corrupt judge/mayor Murphy, who belong in jail for enabling the establishment to steal money from the taxpayers and betray our fire and police personnel who are risking their own lives every day trying to protect us from the consequences of out of control corruption of the U-T establishment. So the corrupt traditions of the San Diego judiciary that has participated in the political corruption and larceny are the main reason that moral and financial bankruptcy of San Diego is out of control today. Francis has his work cut out for him, he must put judges in jail also, except that the corrupt Dumanis will continue to protect U-T establishment corruption and negate any real solutions until she is sent to jail also. I feel like I've said more than enough, especially since I am not a member of The Reader's X & Y generations whose time has come to take charge of their own future. We protested in the 60s and things changed somewhat, but Bill Clinton and GW Bush have screwed up America totally, brain-dead ("I did not have sex with that woman" - whatever he wants to call it gave the White House to the Neocons) Bill made it possible for brain-dead GWB to win twice. Maybe states like Michigan today with their hideous 7.5% unemployment can lead the nation to wake up the America, especially the X & Y generations to takeover politics from the corrupt and the brain-dead. Let's hope the Business Week "Youthquake" cover story indicated correctly that X & Y are ready, willing, and mad as hell able to takeover.— January 15, 2008 12:44 p.m.

Response to: “the so-called independent budget analyst working for the council --- has apparently been compromised.” So the corrupt business as usual bunch continues to rule San Diego with court granted impunity, and people are seeing the reality of why the U-T Establishment wanted a “strong” mayor in the first place. X & Y have a lot of work to do before the next election, first with helping Aguirre and Frye roto-rooter the sewer that runs from the U-T to the Mayor’s office. Response to post #35: Right again Don, thus the powers that be ignored Bowman so the U-T Establishment could continue to rob the taxpayers and the consequences were that too many San Diegans died and were severely injured in the firestorms. But the saddest bottom line is that republican and democratic voters in San Diego still let them get away with stealing from us and threatening our lives and property even though Murphy, Sanders et al. have really committed acts of criminal negligence while being granted impunity by corrupt judges. The truth is that both republican and democratic voters continue to refuse to demand accountability of our elected criminals. So when they run for election and re-election they get away with dumping such deceitful rhetoric on us that they insult the intelligence of the electorate to the point where both parties are not only threatening our lives, they are threatening the stability of what is left of our democracy. As the Business Week “Youthquake” article documents, X & Y may at last be the generations that are saying to hell with both democratic and republican parties, and must take independent actions to save whatever acceptable quality of life that is left for their own future. Response to post #33: It is much worse than that Don, my own political beliefs have changed with the times. I started out as an “I Like Ike” republican when one could be proud to be identified as such. Then Nixon came along and screwed up everything so I started voting for some democrats. Now my democratic representatives in Washington Davis, Feinstein and Boxer have proven to be brain-dead and just as threatening to American Democracy as the corrupt republicans so I am now registered as a nonpartisan voter. One quintessential example of brain-dead democrats is Senator Feinstein, who is most obviously not a San Diego establishment owned pol, but she has proven to be just as bad a root cause of excessive firestorm deaths, destruction and threats as Murphy, Sanders et al. When she strutted into town for her 2007 Firestorm photo-ops she acted like a peacock (my apologies to actual peacocks who are smarter than democratic pols) and acted imperiously dismissive of former Fire Chief Jeff Bowman who had provided life and property saving solutions after the 2003 Firestorms which were ignored by Feinstein and the establishment owned pols. Whereas the U-T and their U-T Establishment sycophant clones Voice and Envision are controlled by U-T establishment money from the generations that screwed up America so there is so little left over for X & Y as noted in the newest Business Week “Youthquake” cover story. Actually Don I’m not qualified to speak for Gens X and Y at all especially since I’m your generation not theirs and our generation is one of the generations that allowed the corrupt republicans who caused the problems and brain-dead democrats who watched and did nothing to stop the republicans from screwing up America thus passing on a most hideous legacy to X & Y. The BW “Youthquake” article is one of a growing number of articles trying to define the problems that we caused. A most important point that must be respected and supported by previous generations is that it is time for X & Y (or whatever they wish to call themselves) to speak out loud and clear to take action into their own hands because no previous generation has any right to speak out for them.
