Royal Stone Bistro (Permanently Closed)
Attached to the Royal Food Mart, a long-standing bastion of neighborhood deli and wine shop greatness, the Royal Stone Bistro is the latest in a series of attempts to make a formal café or restaurant stick on the corner location. The new owners and fresh kitchen staff have given the place a makeover that emphasizes more classical preparations and a wine list that begs for careful exploration. A refreshing lack of self-congratulatory prose and hipster faux-bohemianism characterizes the menu, and the friendly (if anything it’s overly friendly or less convivial diners, but that’s quibbling) staff and owners make a good show of adding a too-often-absent sense of belonging to the dining room.
