Since I am a new vegan, it certainly has been an adventure finding places that are veg head friendly. But I’ve had some help finding some really great eateries, and today my hubby and I ate an amazing vegan place that I just had to rave about! First, let me give credit where credit is due. Happy Cow , an online healthy eating guide, is a great resource to novice and experienced vegetarian/vegans alike.
At the recommendation of Happy Cow, my husband and I came across Evolution Fast Food, 100% vegan. Evolution Fast Food isn’t your typical fast food joint. Evolution is an earth friendly restaurant whose mission is to “improve the world with delicious, nutritious fast food that is good for you and good for the earth”. In fact, they have a mission AND a promise, which ensures its patrons that no animal ingredients, no refined sweeteners, no hi-fructose corn syrup, no hydrogenated oils and no artificial flavors are used, but that their food is “All Delicious”. And they kept their promise. I love it when businesses do that, such a rare thing these days :) Especially in the food industry. But that is another blog for another day!
I had a homemade bean-burger patty on gluten free bread with lettuce and chipotle and sweet potato fries. Now, I have not had gluten free bread that I like until TODAY! The bread wasn’t grainy as I have found a lot gluten free products in general to be. The bean-burger patty was flavorful and their sweet potato fries, although more like chips, were to die for. They were not greasy, just delicious :) What I really loved about this place, was that the service was similar to fast food, in that they were timely in their preparation, but their food was CLEAN. What I mean is that our burgers were not heavy, and our fries, sweet potato and regular not greasy. It was awesome. Neither my husband nor myself had a food coma after the meal, but were completely satisfied.
Evolution also has a pretty amazing vibe. While it is a fast food place (drive thru and all), and you go to the register to order, they have a patio in the back with a fountain and beautiful trees. So, you can either order to go, or you can eat in the peace of a running fountain. I completely recommend this place for vegans, vegetarians and omnivores too :) Not in San Diego? Check out Happy Cow and explore your local vegetarian and vegan restaurants.
