The Frog booked jazz: the clientele found it closer to home than Chuck's Steakhouse in La Jolla, and the neighborhood seemed safer than the Crossroads’ on Market Street, downtown.
Restaurants don’t do well in Southeast, where dining out is a picture-taking occasion. All the more surprising, then, was the Black Frog’s success when it opened in 1978 with a menu of prime rib and fish, catering to class.
