A pop and R&B sensation known for her soaring voice, Jordin Sparks rose to fame at age seventeen as the youngest winner of American Idol and went on to dominate the charts with crowd‑favorite singles like her Grammy-winning duet “No Air” (featuring Chris Brown). Her self-titled debut album sold over two million copies worldwide and established her sound with hits such as “Tattoo” and “Battlefield.” In addition to a recording career, she starred alongside Whitney Houston in the 2012 musical film Sparkle, and branched out to the stage by making her Broadway debut in the musical In the Heights and later starring in Waitress. She hosts a podcast called What's Your Spark? and recently voiced the character Shimmer in the animated movie The Pout-Pout Fish. Her fifth studio album No Restrictions marks her first major studio project in nearly a decade, featuring the singles "Call My Name" and "Remember.” A new single dropped in March for “Coming Back To Me,” and she has a new collaborative track out this month with producer Avello, “We Own the Night,” which sports a musical shift toward a more EDM-festival groove.

Death Cab For Cutie

Upcoming Event

Death Cab for Cutie and Nation of Language

  • Tuesday, August 4, 2026, 7:30 p.m.
  • Petco Park, 100 Park Boulevard, San Diego
  • Age Limit: Not available

The early 2000s totally belonged to Death Cab For Cutie, thanks to their knack for blending alternative rock and indie pop on platinum-selling albums like Plans and on hit singles such as “I Will Follow You into the Dark,” an acoustic ballad from that record which has been certified double platinum by the RIAA. They were one of the major bands associated with the rise of indie rock, with several platinum-selling albums and charting singles like "Soul Meets Body," “I Will Possess Your Heart,” and the epic eight-minute title track from their album Transatlanticism. After 20 years on Atlantic Records, the band returned to their indie roots this year with their eleventh studio album, I Built You a Tower, sporting autobiographical themes inspired by the divorce of frontman Ben Gibbard. For this East Village performance, the group’s core trio of Gibbard, bassist Nick Harmer, and drummer Jason McGerr will be joined by touring members Dave Depper and Zac Rae. The bill includes Brooklyn-based indie synth-pop trio Nation of Language, known for mixing analog synth sounds with pulsing EDM bass lines and the melancholy, expressive vocals of frontman Ian Richard Devaney. Currently signed to Sub Pop Records, they released a new album last year and have a new single, “Tougher Than the Rest” (a Springsteen cover) B/W a previously unreleased track called “The Conversation.”

  • Sound, 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard, San Diego
  • Age Limit: All ages

More

Formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Washington, indie rockers Modest Mouse helped define the late-1990s and early-2000s indie rock movement with albums such as The Lonesome Crowded West (1997), which blended post-punk, noise rock, and country elements with jumpy arrangements and abrasive vocals. Over the years, their style evolved from emo-influenced lo-fi Pacific Northwest indie vibes to embrace a more pop-oriented sound, utilizing avant-garde studio experimentation and a wider range of instrumentation on albums like The Moon & Antarctica (2000) and popular singles such as “Dashboard.” They earned widespread notice with Good News for People Who Love Bad News (2004) and its singles “Float On” (their first number-one hit on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart) and “Ocean Breathes Salty.” They’re touring in support of their eighth studio album An Eraser and a Maze, their first full-length following the 2022 passing of founding drummer Jeremiah Green, which dropped in June and features the singles “Picking Dragons' Pockets,” “Look How Far,” and “Third Side of the Moon.”
