FNGRS CRSSD crosses paths with Cross Pollination this Sunday

Immersive This Never Happened event happens this Sunday

A sea of faces, not of screens
A sea of faces, not of screens

Art is a conversation — between artist and audience, but also between artist and artist. In painting, impressionism was a reaction to realism. In music, punk was a reaction to prog rock (among other things). Artists don’t create in a vacuum; they respond to what’s around them. And thanks to house luminary Lane 8’s upcoming Cross Pollination showcase — presented this Sunday by San Diego’s own FNGRS CRSSD — you can see that conversation happening in real time. The sets are back-to-back: two artists, two setups, each responding to the other’s offering. Maybe one goes high and the other goes low. Maybe one goes high and the other goes higher. It depends on the connection between them in that moment.

Speaking of “in that moment” — it’s been 10 years since Lane 8 looked out over the sea of screens and decided to create his This Never Happened series. Phones mediate experience, and mediation blocks connection — to the music, to the moment, and to the artist and each other. You can still bring your magic machine; you just need to put it away and be part of the show.

Waterfront Park is already a destination for fans of the CRSSD festival. Get tickets now for a chance to experience this intimate, immersive extension of that experience, and to listen in on the conversations: Lane 8 x Sultan + Shepard, Yotto x Kasbo, Massane x Qrion, and Ashibah x Grigoré.
