BBQ Picnic Dinner & Fireworks

Enjoy BBQ, drinks, fireworks, and waterfront views aboard the historic 1898 Berkeley and the Maritime Museum’s bayfront barge. Tickets include dinner and prime viewing of the Big Bay Boom fireworks show aboard the Victorian-era 1898 steam ferry boat Berkeley, or from the aft barge surrounding visitors with up-close views of the popular tall ship schooner Californian and galleon replica San Salvador. This event supports the Maritime Museum of San Diego, with all proceeds benefiting its preservation efforts.

Sea Lion Pupping Season Talk 

Take in a free talk by volunteer docents to learn about the local sea lion pupping season and ecology, followed by a brief walk down to the rookery to see the animals. Sierra Club Seal Society is advocating for better protection of sea lion pups born in La Jolla Cove by a “share the shore” approach, preserving access while keeping the public at safe distances.

Earth, Wind & Fire

Formed in Chicago in 1969, Earth, Wind & Fire combines jazz, R&B, soul, funk, disco, pop, Latin and Afro-pop. In 2021, they reached the top 10 of Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart for the first time in 28 years with their new single “You Want My Love”, featuring Lucky Daye. The crew is eleven members strong and includes original members Philip Bailey on vocals and percussion, Verdine White on bass and vocals, and Ralph Johnson on drums and vocals, plus a three-piece horn section.

International Summer Organ Festival

This summer-long, free concert features the largest open-air musical instrument in the world, the Spreckles organ. On July 7, see Joshua Stafford, director of Sacred Music and the Jared Jacobsen Chair for the Organist of the Chautauqua Institution in New York. In 2016, Stafford was awarded the first prize of the Longwood Gardens International Organ Competition.

Down to the Bone: Caitlin Rother & the McStay Family Murders

Come for an evening of true crime as New York Times bestselling author Caitlin Rother discusses her latest book, Down to the Bone, a dive into the San Diego-based McStay family murders. This case led to the conviction and death sentence of Joseph McStay’s business associate, Charles “Chase” Merritt. At this event, Rother will unpack how assumptions, missteps, and courtroom controversy shaped the outcome of this case. Books will be available to purchase and a signing will follow the event.
