History of Gaslamp

Once home to the Stingaree district, San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter has transformed from a red-light zone into a hub of culture, architecture, and commerce. Join the Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation as they trace the area’s evolution— from its Wild West beginnings as a waterfront vice district to its Victorian revival and present-day status as a National Historic District. Discover the stories behind the brick sidewalks, gaslamps, and preserved buildings that now shape one of the city’s iconic neighborhoods. 

When: Thursday, August 14, 11 am to 12 pm

Friday | 15

Stars at West Sycamore

Join members from the San Diego Astronomy Association at the West Sycamore Staging Area to view the nighttime sky through telescopes. This will be a dark, moonless star party with Moon rising at 11:26 pm. Check out all of the summer objects (Ring Nebula, Alberio, Summer Triangle, Hourglass) and bright globular clusters. Ask an astronomer to locate the Coathanger object.    

When: Friday, August 15, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm

Lemon Festival

In celebration of Chula Vista’s citrus heritage, this year’s Lemon Festival will transform the community with food and drinks, two stages of live music, a lemon cook-off competition, arts and crafts vendors, and plenty of opportunities for photo ops with Tarty the Lemon. The Little Lemons kids’ area will have games, crafts, and activities in Memorial Park.

Charlotte Lawrence

Raised in Los Angeles, Charlotte Lawrence began singing and playing piano in early childhood, drawing inspiration from her father’s work as a television writer and her mother’s background in music supervision. In February 2024, Lawrence released a new single titled “Dog,” described by People magazine as a melancholic, rock-influenced track. Her debut studio album Somewhere was released this summer with “Us Three” serving as the final single from the album.

Summer Speaker Series at the Lagoon

Hosted by the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, this week’s series fouses on the Carlsbad Ranger Program. The Ranger program is aimed at ensuring a secure, pristine, and enjoyable environment for visitors across the city’s preserves, parks, trails, lagoons, open spaces, and beaches. Meet our Carlsbad Police Rangers, Belinda Butcher and John Hull. Each event includes refreshments: craft beer, Los Cuernos wine, non-alcoholic beer, and a nostalgic treat from a vintage Good Humor Ice Cream Truck.
