“Over 150 years ago, the island nation of Hawaii found itself in a crisis: an outbreak of the horrific, highly contagious, and then-untreatable disease of leprosy,” says San Diego Health Supervisor Winifred Wutan. “The authorities did what they had to do to protect the population: they isolated the infected on the island of Molokai. The lepers suffered, but the island was saved. Those who refuse to get the covid-19 vaccine are infected with something even more dangerous than leprosy: misinformation about a deadly pandemic and the near-miraculous cure that is available to anyone who wants it. As a result, they are getting infected and dying at higher rates than the rest of the population, and as such, they pose a grave risk to the public health I am sworn to protect. Starting November 1, anyone failing to prove vaccination will be taken to an isolated region on Fiesta Island and quarantined there until they make the free choice to get the vaccine and rejoin civilization.”

Sounds like a good plan. Leprosy or COVID-19,, whatever doesn't float your boat! It brings like-minded folks together, to live in peace and harmony. If you look southward, you can see SeaWorld, too. There are fire pits for cookouts; and your guests do NOT have to show a vaccination card for entry. Dogs are welcome, vaxxed or not. And if they happen to kick the bucket (full of caught fish), as I said, there are fire pits.
Dogs can frolic (photo from Google Maps).
You all, including David Batterson, making those patrons of Fiesta Island --- add the Island itself ------- a loser. Fiesta Island was born for those who support it; support it via camping, barbequing, cycling, fishing, partying,. etc.
The correct location for 'vaccinating' be rather for BORDER FIELD STATE PARK. Next to the Border. Hence, respect the Border society in the same way, as they respect U.S., when they are moving in the U.S. Hence when their people move into the U.S., they are not as health concerned as U.S. (a) Nation (b) Citizens are. So my theory/logic via that only proves that Fiesta Island territory be kept as clean as it is. REALLY, cars shall be banned for even more cleanliness.
Like some others, you didn't GET it that the entire article is SATIRE! It is not real. Fiesta Island is not going to change, so no worries. "Walter Mencken" has been writing these fun spoofs in the READER for years, and they are brilliant.
There are those who appreciate satire, those who don't get it and a third category. Those who know darn well it's satire and they know who is writing this column. I think they're sending him a message. His other column turns controversial and sometimes toxic for no reason. It's sad, keeping in mind what he's writing about should be enjoyable.
Satire is not meant to be laugh-out-loud funny. It is actually serious in intent, pointing out the foibles of stupid and/or corrupt people, like Trump, anti-vaxxers, Fascists, sexual predators, pols taking bribes, nation warmongers, etc. It's a tradition going back centuries. "Gulliver's Travels" by the author and genius Jonathan Swift, is a perfect example of satire at its greatest. It is not a childrens' book at all.
STRAIGHT>No Satire: Clean-up, anywhere, from dog-owners, and/or their litter - is not at an acceptable responsiblity level.
