A 28-year-old structural engineer from Massachusetts, Luke Sederholm, who lives in Pacific Beach, talks about nearby Tourmaline.
“Here, everybody is going on every wave so… you can’t really get angry. No one is getting angry at you. If you go to the jetty in OB, which is maybe my favorite spot, yeah, people can get pretty angry.”
On a 2011 trip to Panama, Sederholm had a gnarly wipeout at Isla de Burica off Punta Burica.
“If you got hurt there, you’re pretty screwed. There’s no electricity, there’s no boats, there’s nothing,” he said. “It was a pretty big day, and I smacked my leg really bad. I was bleeding profusely out of my shin, and I had to paddle back twenty minutes. There were a ton of sharks in the water and that really freaked me out.”
