Jane Blanchard: in anticipation of All Saints Day

Commemorating The Stations of the Cross

The Third Station

  • The First Fall
  • I must recover from this fall.
  • No other Savior can be found.
  • I will redeem the sins of all,
  • So must recover from this fall.
  • I still can hear my Father call.
  • To His intention I am bound.
  • I must recover from this fall.
  • No other Savior can be found.

The Sixth Station

  • Veronica
  • As all continue toward the place,
  • A woman in the rowdy crowd
  • Steps forth to wipe the Savior’s face:
  • Her veil anticipates His shroud.
  • Jesus, never mind the throng.
  • May such faith as yours stay strong.
  • Only you can right much wrong.
  • This act of kindness captures stains
  • Of pains endured phase after phase;
  • An imprint on the cloth remains
  • And lasts until the end of days.

The Eleventh Station

  • The Nails
  • All three are driven into him,
  • In Roman fashion, limb by limb.
  • These soldiers have been ordered to
  • Give every criminal his due.
  • Their posting at Jerusalem
  • Has proven grueling, gross, and grim.
  • They often wonder just how true
  • Is any claim of what or who.
  • Affixed, a sign amuses them:
  • INRI the acronym.
