When I first learned of the massive salary increase that was coming for the "Mare" and city clowncil, I was amused to hear their comments. Didn't a single one of those big mouths realize that when they claimed that better-qualified candidates would be attracted, it reflected on their own poor ability? Guess not.

The expressed rationales of politicians for their own salary increases are always cringe-worthy. I do not understand how this measure passed.

Did the voters even understand what they were voting for? And interestingly (at least to me), there was no argument against this proposition that was filed.

I agree entirely and also noticed the absence of any argument against L. How could that happen? Maybe San Diego voters are so desperate for actual representation they actually believe Bob Ottilie's line that Measure L would be an incentive for those elusive "better-qualified candidates." But note that even without it, we got "better people" in Monica Montgomery of District 4 who was elected by the people of her community independent of Democratic Party or Labor backing. And Montgomery defeated sellout Council President Myrtle Cole to boot.
