It always surprises me when people tell me they’ve never seen Sophie’s Choice (USA/UK, 1982, Associated Film Distribution). Meryl Streep is magnificent as the woman faced with life-changing and often impossible choices at every step. This movie literally changed my life.
I’m not much of a TV watcher but I so loved Margaret Atwood’s book The Handmaid’s Tale that I had to watch this Hulu series (USA, 2017). At the time I read the book it seemed like pure science fiction. In these precarious times, it seems too creepily plausible. Superb direction and art direction with fine performances all around.
