Empowering young Muslims

And endorsing Democratic candidates

One of the county’s newer political campaign committees was registered by a Poway high school student.

A group of Muslim students from high schools around the county have set up a campaign committee to gather cash for political causes, according to an August 12 filing with the county registrar of voters. The purpose of San Diego Young Muslim Democrats is to “empower young Muslim Americans within the Democratic Party of San Diego,” the disclosure says.

Adds the group’s Facebook page: “We also aim to increase political activism amongst San Diego Muslim youth by endorsing and participating in campaign work for Democratic candidates, inviting speakers, holding monthly meetings, and facilitating the creation of a Muslim youth-run campaign presence during high profile elections.”

The group is headed by founder Luqmaan Bokhary, a junior at Poway’s Westview High, according to his LinkedIn page. “One of Luqmaan’s biggest goals in school is to advance Muslim rights and give Muslim students a voice on campus.”

Good for Luqmaan Bokhary, a high school student, for doing grassroots organizing to bring a Muslim presence into local Democratic Party operations in support of candidates in this presidential election year. The San Diego Democratic Party could use a fraction of the energy, enterprise and bravery that this kid has demonstrated.

The Right Wing nut bag Republicans will go nuts. In San Diego there is no liberal news/talk outlet so the talking heads on all the stations will have a field day with this.

Peter Peters: Muslims constitute less than 1% of the population of the United States. American Muslims have taken a lot of abuse since 9/11-- some of it doubtless from their Christian majority brothers and sisters. Please, give this kid credit for his courage and positive approach to a bad deal, exacerbated by deplorable presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Again as long as they call attention to turning out the nuts among them and calling for the religion to act as the religion of peace then I am fine. We are standing in lines at airports and have lost so many civil rights since 9/11 and there is only one common denominator. Common sense calls to put a hold on immigration which seems to set off the PC left who seem to think we can all hold hands and not worry. Look at the nightmare in Europe and the back lash. Again go google the religion of peace's founder and see if you still think this man had well intentioned motives............not hardly.
