Little Square Bales
- A high sky is here with that breeze from the west.
- Talkin’ rain Monday. Sabbath won’t be no day of rest.
- My brother’s out there now, baking up to the rake.
- Roll up those windrows, brother, and let it bake.
- Mom would stop to get twine on her way through town
- cause Dad was layin’ forty acres of hay on the ground.
- Put up a thousand bales of first crop hay.
- “We got a little work out of you” is all Dad would say.
- Lookin’ back on it now it was both toil and joy.
- You know ya got to make hay while the sun shines boy.
- Mom would stop to get twine on her way through town
- cause there’s forty acres of hay on the ground.
- Farming has changed a bit over the years
- You can do all alone now in that big John Deere.
- Cut it raining, wrap it in plastic, bale it green.
- No one to know what “Make hay while the sun shines” means?
- Mom would get twine on her way through town
- cause there’s forty acres of hay on the ground.
- Now I ain’t saying it’s the stuff of fairy tales.
- But life was different with little square bales
November Is Back
- turned up my collar, put on my cap
- wonder where my old jacket is at.
- I can see you’re leaving heading south
- it’s that time of year when we get sorted out
- you will return to fanfare and acclaim
- for some you and spring are one and the same
- take all the credit don’t stay for the snow
- one cold wind and away you go
- all you snow birds sure flock together
- maybe we’ll see you again come fairer weather
- cut more wood it’s split and stacked
- Robin’s gone November’s back
