'Tis the season for pop stars to release Christmas music.
Kelly Clarkson, the successful first-season American Idol, has given America a musical gift. Her album Wrapped in Red consists of 14 songs plus two deluxe edition tracks on the CD. Clarkson co-wrote several brand new Christmas songs for the release: “Wrapped in Red,” “Underneath the Tree,” “Every Christmas,” “Winter Dreams,” and “4 Carats.”
“Wrapped in Red” opens the album and is about being a romantic Christmas present. “4 Carats” is Clarkson’s extravagant Christmas gift request: “Like a diamond ring/ Just a little something from Tiffany’s/ Or a big ruby/ You know red has always looked good on me.”
On her other Christmas songs, Clarkson transitions between rock ’n’ roll and classics, such as “Run, Run Rudolph,” which wakes up listeners and highlights Clarkson’s vocal style. Her version of “Blue Christmas” is a female alternative to the memorable rendition by Elvis. Ending the album with the first verse of the advent song “Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel” reminds listeners of the reason for the season.
Wrapped in Red is a family-friendly album to play at holiday gatherings this year.
