Portugalia, the now-closed Portuguese restaurant and pub located at 4839 Newport Avenue is on the auction block. Signs promoting a "quiet auction" are posted in several places in front of the former business that was once "the only Portuguese eatery in all of San Diego County," according to a 2007 Naomi Wise Reader article.

Quietauction.com is taking phone and email bids on the 10,000-square-foot property, which boasts "13 garage parking spaces" and "a restaurant upstairs." Touting the locale as a "rare property" that "much can be done with," the signs say that offers are accepted 24 hours a day.

Jason Nascimento, the previous owner, is the scion of a local Portuguese fishing family. He folded the business after eight years and moved away. A May 2011 Reader story by Dave Good noted that Nascimento stated, "I couldn’t do it anymore.”
