Patrons at the Uptown shopping center were treated to several hours of deafening noise today, November 14, as Boart Longyear Drilling Services drilled 147 feet below the surface of the parking lot.
Workers on the site stated the plan was to continue drilling until the subsurface freshwater aquafier was reached.
Soil samples were being obtained as the drilling progressed and are being used to check for pollution, chemicals, and to determine volume and direction of underground water flow.
Several of the crew said they did not know how much longer the drilling would go on.

Is this just for testing purposes, or is this supposed to become a well? Seems like an odd place for a well.
My thoughts exactly. I saw the drilling and asked several of the crew why they would choose to drill in a busy parking lot and the answer was always "We just drill where they tell us."
They actually drilled three wells, each at different locations within the parking lot. The last was finished yesterday (Friday). They expected to be gone by today. I believe the contractor was hired by the County but no one wanted to say. I'm thinking someone might have long term plans of expanding the underground lot that is now under Ralph's.
