The garage of the rental home had been used for growing marijuana, according to police overheard at the scene. The fire went into the attic and the interior of the home, causing extensive heat and smoke damage to the remainder of the structure. Fire crews were able to knock down the flames before damage could occur to adjacent residences.
According to officials at the scene, it was believed that one of the tenants might have a permit to grow marijuana. Police and fire investigators conducted thorough interviews with the tenants; a large amount of lights, electrical equipment, and plants were at the scene.
No arrests were made at the time and the exact cause would be under investigation. Damage was estimated at $160,000. The occupants escaped uninjured.
