A mobile-home fire in Lakeside injured a woman and destroyed her residence early Wednesday morning, December 2.
The fire at Willowbrook Estate East mobile park was reported at 6:35 a.m. According to sources at the Lakeside Fire Department, the home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. The fire was put out just before 7:00 a.m.
“I know she was a smoker,” said Spero Tzathas from park’s main office, which is located at the Willowbrook Golf Course. “An oxygen tank may have been involved in starting the fire.”
California Highway Patrol officer Don Coney was passing by on the way to work when he spotted the fire and hurried over to carry the woman to safety, authorities reported. He suffered smoke inhalation and burns in the process, and both Coney and the woman were taken to the hospital.
