"We started this one off with a nice 20-second feedback solo," says Crash Carter singer/guitarist Casey Gee of the band's "worst gig ever," at the Hard Rock Café in La Jolla.
Drummer John Mears elaborates on the club's "soundman from hell, howling PA speakers, blown monitors, crappy stage, [our] heads were inches from the ceiling. This is what the world-famous Hard Rock offers San Diego? I would have rather been the dishwasher that night."
Bassist Jeff Bowman adds, "We were expecting a more professional atmosphere, but when the soundman cleared out the place during our sound check, [mixing] on a half-working house PA system, the last song couldn't have come soon enough."
Hard Rock La Jolla's Steve King doesn't recall the Crash Carter show in question, but last week he said, "We stopped having live bands on a regular basis at the end of last year; the club's just not set up for it. We have a band tonight but it's just a sometimes-thing."
Crash Carter appears tomorrow, February 3, at La Playa Cantina & Grill in San Marcos.
