According to Troy Johnson on February 3's Fox Rox, "In March Clear Channel Communications is going to spin off four of its San Diego stations, including 91X. Our inside source says that 91X is being bought by a group of investors headed by a guy named Mike Glickenhaus. Here's the irony: Glickenhaus was the original owner of 91X way back in the day when they were truly independent."
Glickenhaus never owned 91X. Glickenhaus was a 91X sales rep when the station switched to alternative rock in January 1983. Glickenhaus became general manager of 91X in 1985. Jacor took over 91X in 1996, and Clear Channel swallowed Jacor in 1999. In July of last year Glickenhaus was fired by Clear Channel and escorted out of the building. No official reason was given by Clear Channel.
Fox Rox also reported that Clear Channel is going to spin off three of its other Mexican stations: "Jammin' Z90, Magic 92.5, and Kool 99.3. Clear Channel won't own these stations but...the stations are going to use existing equipment in Clear Channel's Mission Valley headquarters." Clear Channel headquarters is in Kearny Mesa.
