Worst piece of career advice to share with a high school film student: stockpile enough footage of a team of promising young athletes and s/he can become the next Steve James (Hoop Dreams). Patience and stamina, not artistry, are the hallmark of documentarians Suzannah Herbert and Lauren Belfer. Wait long enough and maybe something of interest will pass before the lens. Or not. Scenes of good kids gone wild — a trace amount of weed found in a car, public urination — unfold like an episode of Cops. Rated R for profanity, the majority of which comes from adult role models like Coach Chris. Here’s one that’s as far out of this sportsophobe’s wheelhouse as they get. Like a pile-driver to the cement, Wrestle left me grappling to maintain consciousness. (2019) — Scott Marks
