The Last Suit (El último traje) 2.0 stars

Last Suit (El último traje) movie poster

The second-best film to be made about a Holocaust survivor in the early stages of dementia (in this case an Argentinian named Abraham, played by Miguel Ángel Solá) who undertakes a perilous pilgrimage looking to come to terms with a moment in his past. Unfortunately there are only two films in that category, and the other one (Atom Egoyan’s Remember) takes audiences on a far more ingeniously conceived journey. Still, director Pablo Solarz’s drama is not without its striking moments, most notably a flashback filmed in an unbroken long take of a young Abraham returning from the camps only to be refused access to his home. What precedes it is a standard variation on the grumpy old man theme, but for the most part, I had bought into the film long before the subject turned to mass genocide. 2017.
