Blake Edwards resumes the Inspector Clouseau series after a ten-year hiatus: long enough to eliminate any sense of desecration (in contrast to Trail of... and Curse of the Pink Panther), but too long for there to be any compelling reason to resume. And let's be honest: there was a sharp drop-off in the series after the first two entries and first ten-year hiatus, never mind the desperate resuscitation attempts after Peter Sellers's death. Roberto Benigni, as Clouseau's illegitimate son (by Claudia Cardinale, who reprises her role from the first film in the series), can be a funny fellow (best bit: playing doctor), but he isn't helped by following a funnier fellow. With Herbert Lom, Robert Davi, Jennifer Edwards, Shabana Azmi. (1993) — Duncan Shepherd
