The moon landing was, among other things, possibly the greatest PR stunt America ever fashioned for itself. So even if it wasn’t a hoax executed by the late director Stanley Kubrick, it seems perfectly reasonable to assume that someone had a Plan B in case things went FUBAR. To wit: straight-faced but screw-loose Vietnam operative Ron Perlman gets sent to deliver a suitcase full of cash to Mr. Kubrick so he can make the fake — just in case. But Perlman accidentally hands the case to bumbling band manager Rupert Grint (the casting is aces all ’round here), and the madcappery commences. It’s all good English fun, full of drugs, brutality, and general late-’60s decadence. It’s also weirdly slack for such an insane ride, as if director Antoine Bardou-Jacquet was afraid he might get in the way of Dean Craig’s splendid story. As a result, what could have been electric and exhilarating is merely swoonily satisfying. Still, it’s worth watching Perlman lend some sad humanity to a super soldier in the midst of rampant absurdity. (2016) — Matthew Lickona
