Following in the footsteps of De Palma's Carrie and The Fury, but going a couple of steps further, this supernatural thriller defines "telekinesis" as a mental power sufficient to bring about the Flood or the Parting of the Red Sea. In real life, you would be pretty impressed if someone, by power of concentration, were able to defoliate a begonia; but the people behind this movie seem to feel you won't be impressed unless their psychic superman is guiding a jumbo jet into a London skyscraper or is disassembling Minster Cathedral stone by stone. Rich, creamy color images by Arthur Ibbetson; a silently authoritative performance by Lino Ventura as a detective who does no detecting but who waits patiently for a female psychiatrist to divulge the facts of the case in her own sweet time. With Richard Burton and Lee Remick; directed by Jack Gold. (1978) — Duncan Shepherd
