Van Damme as twins again (remember Double Impact?), but mainly as a morose French cop who doesn't meet his mirror image until the latter is under a sheet, and who then sets out to get to "know" his brother and simultaneously to find his killers (Russian mobsters, rogue FBI men). The trail, unexpectedly dark and bumpy, is congested with routine stunts, chases, mano-a-manos. At least the hero is evenly matched against a blond muscleman reminiscent of Robert Shaw in From Russia with Love: several inconclusive skirmishes before their fight-to-the-finish in a stalled elevator. Further evocation of that Bond film: instead of a knife coming out of the toe of a shoe, we get a knife going into the toe of a shoe. With Natasha Henstridge, Jean-Hugues Anglade; directed by Ringo Lam. (1996) — Duncan Shepherd
