On occasion, a filmmaker takes great pleasure in shining a light on historical figures so overlooked that they barely cling to the margins of history. From birth to death, it takes four actresses to play the part of the first female shrink. Her brushes with greatness — women's rights activist Malwida von Meysenbug, philosophers Paul Rée, Friedrich Nietzsche, and the great love of her life, poet Rainer Maria Rilke — were more than just a Forrest Gump strand of coincidence.
