Director Christian Vincent grants us the agreeable sight of two mainstays of the contemporary French cinema -- Daniel Auteuil, Isabelle Huppert -- maneuvering their way expertly through an intimate and articulate little drama of a relationship on the rocks. Very, very little. The whole of it is completely believable and closely observed, but the inhibiting factor appears to be a fear that anything too individual or too interesting would ruin its chances at universality. The kicker is that it's the lack of those things that ruins those chances. (1997) — Duncan Shepherd
