On the surface, what appears to be a Borat/Inspector Clouseau hybrid is really little more than the premise of a typical Jerry Lewis film: assign a patsy a set of impossible tasks only to have him ace every challenge. Maz Jobrani stars as the titular errand boy, an Iranian clod hired by the government to act as a private eye and unwittingly help America fumble its way into World War III. There’s no time like the present for a “shared experience” comedy aimed at uniting Muslims and Americans in laughter. This isn’t it. Much of the poorly timed physical slapstick falls flat as do the endless stretches of humor as verbal miscommunication. (Substituting “V’s” for “W’s” went out with Lily Von Scthupp.) There are a few raunchy chuckles to be mined in this series of silly sequences — most notably from John Heard as a ruddy-faced Republican shitheel — but not enough to justify a feature.
