A Swedish plainclothesman on a Norwegian homicide case goes bad and goes worse and keeps on going and going. Hard to see why, even with all due sympathy for his shortage of sleep. (Land, after all, of the midnight sun.) The exact turning point, a foot pursuit in a pea-soup fog, is well staged, but the pervasive sea-green tint sets a monotonous tone. With Stellan Skarsgard; directed by Erik Skjoldbjaerg. (1997) — Duncan Shepherd
