Having never watched so much as one episode of the popular sitcom — too many movies means not enough time for their bastard offspring — what piqued my interest about this presentation was a rare shot at catching a network television show on a movie theatre screen while surrounded by an audience of like-minded devotees. While at MoPA, I programmed a night of The Honeymooners, including two 35mm episodes courtesy of a collector friend. Bang! Zoom! It was like seeing the Kramdens and Nortons in 3D! I can’t guarantee that pixels will assure the same stereoscopic thrills as film, but you’re sure to experience a deeper level of intimacy watching your Friends writ large. 2019.
