In 1926 mystery writer Agatha Christie mysteriously vanished for eleven days from a health spa in England. Wouldn't it have been nice if the reason for this had been worthy of elucidation by Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple? Wouldn't it have been nice, were someone going to go ahead and make a movie about it anyway, if some such reason could have been invented? It is no compliment to say that the reason that has been invented instead is fully worthy of elucidation by Dustin Hoffman as an ambiguous American newspaperman. With Vanessa Redgrave; directed by Michael Apted. (1979) — Duncan Shepherd
