Mel Brooks' musical version of the popular 1968 movie was a Tony Award-winner. On stage today, it has maybe four boffo scenes -- including a spectacular, Busby Berkeley homage danced by stiff-armed Nazi Storm Troopers and Panzer tanks. San Diego Musical Theatre's production does that number proud, worth the price of admission, as they say. But six scenes still remain, in a tedious denouement. Yet another price to pay. Worth a try.
