Backyard Renaissance: The Waverly Gallery
Meet Gladys Greene. Matriarch, social activist, immigrant, idealist, lawyer, arts advocate, and raconteur extraordinaire. A glittering emblem of the American Dream on the upper west side of New York City, Gladys now contends with the changing fortunes of the Greenwich Village art gallery she owns and operates. It’s the late 1980s. Gentrification, Big Money, and Corporate Culture loom large and cast long shadows over the once bustling bohemian neighborhood. Gladys, forever the fighter and an eternal optimist, refuses to give ground. With the help of her daughter and grandson, she makes a daring last stand and places all her hope in one big final show at her waning Waverly Gallery. By Kenneth Lonergan, directed by Francis Gercke. Featuring Alexander Ameen, William Huffaker, Katie MacNichol, Deborah Gilmour Smyth and Tom Zohar. Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama.
