Todd and Sheila want to live better lives. But, in Mat Smart's "pitch black comedy," both are "stuck." She's a professional assassin; he's her target, since he's committed real estate fraud. Can they change? Can people in general?Kill Localunfolds like two plays side byi side. One has enough violence (convincingly done) for a Quentin Tarantino bloodbath. The other's a theme-fest, ameditation on change and forgiveness. At itsbest, and much like The Sopranos, the play evokes chilly laughter. Director Jackson Gay's fullly engaged cast performs with a titch of exaggeration, which helps highlight the contrasts between daily life and stone-cold brutality.Worth a try.
