Mid-Century Modern Weekend
Mission Hills Heritage (MHH) has announced its 2026 historic-home theme, Mid-Century Modern, highlighting one of the neighborhood’s most significant yet often underrecognized architectural styles. Mission Hills features one of the largest concentrations of mid-century modern homes in the region, including works by Frederick Liebhardt, Lloyd Ruocco, and Homer Delawie.
“We have included some mid-century modern homes on past tours, but in 20 years we have never focused exclusively on this important architectural genre,” said Barry Hager, MHH co-founder. “We think it’s about time to change that.”
The theme will be celebrated during MHH’s Mid-Century Modern Weekend, a two-day event this spring centered on the organization’s Annual Spring Lecture and a new signature gathering, the Modernism Mixer.
The Modernism Mixer will take place Friday evening at a private mid-century modern home in Mission Hills, offering guests a unique opportunity to experience the architecture firsthand while supporting historic preservation efforts.
The weekend continues Saturday with the Annual Spring Lecture, featuring author Keith York and modernism craft authority Dave Hampton. The event also includes refreshments and a vendor showcase focused on maintaining and enhancing historic homes.
“We’re excited to create more opportunities for our community to connect and engage with preservation,” said Sharon Lieder, MHH board member and events chair.
Proceeds from the weekend support Mission Hills Heritage’s ongoing advocacy and preservation work amid increasing development pressures.
