Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld
Get ready for glitter, grooves, and Greek gods like you’ve never seen them before!
Join Opera À La Carte San Diego for a hilarious and high-energy production of Jacques Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld—reimagined with a fabulously fun 1970s twist. This two-act operetta features the famous "Can-can" and a cast of dynamic local talent, including: Katherine Polit as Eurydice, Adam Caughey as Orpheus, Frank Napolitano as Pluto, and Michael O'Halloran as Jupiter!
Under the masterful musical direction of Bruce Stasyna and inventive stage direction by Zane Alcorn, this spirited romp through Mount Olympus and the Underworld brings disco flair and vocal fireworks to Offenbach’s satirical classic. We’re also thrilled to feature a special collaboration with Wen Song and Song in Motion Dance Company, whose dancers will bring added rhythm, color, and movement to the world of gods and mortals.
Whether you're an opera lover or new to the genre, this production promises an unforgettable night of music, mischief, and myth—with a retro edge. Sung in English.
