Margarita Behrens obtained her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University Autonoma in Spain. She is part of the Salk-team creating the single-cell epigenomic maps of the mouse and human brains funded by the NIH BRAIN Initiative. She will discuss this in relation to brain maturation and the effects of aging. With a background in genomics, neurobiology and physiology, she studies the balance between activating and inhibiting neurons in brain circuitry within the prefrontal cortex, an area of the brain responsible for decision-making and reasoning, from late pregnancy through adolescence.
