The Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation has provided 45,000 heart screenings since 2010 for youth ages 12 to 25 to find the 1 in 300 at risk for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) from an undetected heart condition. EKGs are recognized as the best tool to final fatal abnormalities but are not part of regular exams so the foundation provides them for free in memory of the 23,000 youth lost to SCA each year. Screenings include a cardiac risk assessment, EKG, physician consult and if indicated a limited echocardiogram. Participants also get hands-on learning for how to use CPR and an AED to save an SCA victim.
