Lend Me a Tenor
In September of 1934, Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is primed to welcome world-famous singer Tito Merelli, known as “Il Stupendo”, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as the star of the opera. The tickets are sold, the stage is set, and the thirty-piece orchestra is ready. But, it’s about to become “un disastro gigantesco”, because it’s three minutes to curtain, and the leading man - the greatest tenor in the world - has gone missing.
