Youth Art Month
YAM is an annual juried exhibition featuring K-12 student artwork from around San Diego County. Organized by the California Art Education Association San Diego (CAEASD) area chapter, the exhibition is an effort to advocate for visual arts education for all children and encourage funding for quality school visual arts programs. In past years, the exhibition has been held throughout San Diego County at various arts organizations. In 2020, the Athenaeum is proud to partner with CAEASD and host YAM San Diego in our Logan Heights location. On view will be 100 to 200 works of art inspired by the 2020 YAM theme of Journey Through History. A handful of artwork will be selected to travel throughout the state before forming part of the March Youth Art Month exhibition in Washington, D.C. The Children’s Art Month began in 1961 as an endeavor to emphasize the value to children of participating in visual arts education. In 1969 the celebration expanded to include secondary school students, and the Children’s Art Month event officially became known as Youth Art MonthYouth Art Month runs January 11–February 8, 2020 Closing and Awards Reception: Saturday, February 8, 6-8 PM.
