35th Plays by Young Writers Festival
Plays written by California students that were chosen through the 2019 California Young Playwrights Contest. Out of over 560 submissions, four students won the opportunity for their plays to be performed at The Joan B. Kroc Theatre. Three young writers will receive full productions of their plays, and one younger writer will have her script presented as a staged reading. Full productions: “Love is Blind: A Spoken Word Play” by Aiko Lozar Age 15, Carlsbad The year is 2121, love is treason…but are Amber and Blake in love? “Like Father, Like Daughter” by Izzy Ster Age 16, Carmel Valley Adulthood dawns on a daughter and her father over a series of coffee dates. “Feliz Cumpleaños” by Jordan Marie Finley Age 17, San Diego Cami struggles to celebrate her birthday after her parents are deported. STAGED READING: “The Hurricane” by Torrey Woodfill Age 11, San Diego Two friends experience the emotional rollercoaster of facing their fears.
