Art Secrets of the Masters: Learn Printmaking
Make your own images using artistic techniques developed in Germany during the Middle Ages. Between about 1480 and 1980 A.D., nearly all the pictures, books, and newspapers seen or read by an average person were produced using inked printing plates created by skilled artists and craftsmen. This system is still used by fine artists today. We'll be learning drypoint, a form of engraving that anybody can do. If you can pick up a pencil and draw a stick figure, you can make art with drypoint. You'll make your drawing with a scribing tool on an 8"x10" plastic plate. Then you will make a print from your plate on our professional-level printing press (we use only non-toxic Akua brand water-based inks for your safety) . You’ll experience lots of ways to add color and collage to your print. You’ll leave this workshop with several of your own original prints.
