The Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall
3701 Voltaire Street, San Diego, 92107
Cost: Free
J. Elke Ertle grew up in West Berlin during the Cold War. At 15, she experienced firsthand every Berliner's fear as, without warning, the Berlin Wall went up in the wee hours of the morning on 13 August 1961. Ertle will discuss the factors that led to the rise of the Berlin Wall and the dynamics that brought it down 28 years later. November 9 of this year will mark the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Wall. J. Elke Ertle is the author of "Walled-In: A West Berlin Girl's Journey to Freedom."
