On The Live Video Tour, which opens in Escondido, OK Go point their beam of creativity at their stage show, once again ignoring boundaries and, in the process, inventing a new flavor of live entertainment. Rather than staging a traditional rock show, the polymath quartet plays along in perfect sync with their iconic music videos on the silver screen, taking detours between songs to wander playfully into unexpected places. There's a song performed on nothing but handbells, another on the homemade instruments (from their stunt-driving obstacle course music video), and an interactive one where the audience play along Guitar Hero-style, forming a vast orchestra of smartphones. These diverse performances are punctuated by surprisingly casual (and family-friendly) Q&A sessions, and it all adds up to a totally new type of event: part rock show, part film screening, part Blue Man Group, part Pop Up Magazine, and all OK Go.
