Designing for Community: Dog Parks & Public Space
What makes a neighborhood into a community? With rising density in areas like San Diego’s East Village, good urban design is more essential than ever for creating vibrant communities. Join us for a discussion about urban design strategies with a special focus on the dog park/dog run as an effective “mixer” for human and canine interaction. L.A.-based design guru Frances Anderton of KCRW FM’s DnA will guide the conversation with San Diego urban planning maven Howard Blackson and New York Times bestselling author Alexandra Horowitz, an expert on canine cognition and the human-dog relationship. Alexandra will sign copies of her latest book, Our Dogs, Ourselves. All are welcome, including dogs. Presented by UC San Diego Helen Edison Lecture Series.
